Warmer weather has finally started to move in across Oklahoma, bringing with it spring rains, flowers, green grass, and the start of moving season. Yes, this is the time of year the moving and truck rental industry refers to as “peak season,” when most people take advantage of the mild weather and move from place to place. Around here, we see a lot of families moving from home to home and college students moving back home from residences on campus. The only drawback to moving during peak season is the fact that rental moving trucks in Oklahoma get booked up pretty quickly.
Here at Storage ‘R’ Us in Moore, Oklahoma, we’re a PENSKE truck rental location for the area. Around this time of year, we see a lot of folks inquiring about moving truck rentals—all through April, May, and June. So, if you need a truck for a weekend in the coming months, you’d better start thinking about your reservation now. In addition, you might want to start thinking about planning your move—so you can make the most of your weekend—and deciding on the supplies you need to make your move easier. (By the way, we wrote a great article about how to prepare for a move to your new home, and you can read it by clicking the link here.)
Since PENSKE is one of the leading authorities on moving truck rentals, we thought that we’d take a few tips from them on planning a move with a rental truck.
Plan your move: A few months before the actual moving day, take some time to estimate how much stuff you’ll be moving and what size moving truck you’ll need to get the job done. Obviously, for longer moves (across the state), you’ll probably want to rent a truck large enough to make the move in one haul. However, if you’re only moving across town, you might be able to save truck rental costs by renting a smaller truck and making multiple trips.
Pick out a moving truck: You should have your truck rented a month in advance of the actual moving day. PENSKE truck rentals offer trucks in a variety of sizes. You can rent 12 or 16-foot trucks if you only have 2-3 rooms of furniture and belongings to move. For bigger moves, 3-5 rooms in all, you’ll probably want a 22-foot truck. And if you have a large home with 5-7 rooms in all, you’ll probably want to rent a 23-foot PENSKE truck to get the job done. You can get started selecting a truck by visiting the Storage ‘R’ Us home page and clicking the PENSKE truck rental logo at the top left of the page.
Moving truck driving tips: When driving your rented PENSKE moving truck, you’ll want to take extra caution—more so than when you drive your own car or truck—and be especially attentive to road signs pertaining to trucks. Other areas of caution include intersections, passing lanes, steep hills or sharp curves. Remember to drive cautiously and obey all posted speed limits. Set the parking brake whenever you park the moving truck. Happy moving day!
